Echogenic foci on cardiac scan in a surrogate baby
Echogenic foci on cardiac scan, can be a clue to chromosomal abnormality or it can just be a benign finding. It is seen in downs syndrome ,but we are ruling out that possibility by looking for other small findings called soft markers on scan .
This is a surrogate baby and since there is history of abnormalities in the past ,there is a risk factor .Clinical assessment of risk factors are important ,especially maternal age .
Other test like triple marker / quadruple marker / NACE etc can be done to get more information .
Amniocentesis can be done by taking fluid around baby and doing genetic study on those cells .
