I'm a 41 years old italian woman: my partner and I are almost ready to start the journey of surrogacy in Canada.We started thinking about surrogacy one year and half ago, as I have the Rokitansky syndrome and we don't have any other chances.Firts we tried to collect infos about USA but it was too expensive for us, then we "moved" to Greece but they didn't convinced us as there were a lot of issues not clear.
And finally we arrived in Canada! We met on skype a clinic (Repromed in Toronto), a lawyer and 3 different agencies and now we are at the most difficult point: decide if to start or not.We'd like to use my eggs but, as I'm already 41, we have to be very fast! There still are some issues that worry us related both to the costs and to the distance.
Concerning the costs, we collected a lot of breakdown of expenses but it's really difficult to predict how much it will cost at the end: in particular, we still don't have a clear idea of the costs for the baby after the birth if he/she needs for example to stay in the incubator.We are not Canadian and probably the baby won't be eligible but we understand that there are significative differences in the health service between the different states: it seems that British Columbia could give us free medical support for the baby but we are not sure.Does anybody know the differences? Concerning the costs for lost wages or bad rest, is there any insurance we can stipulate that could cover these costs?
Secondly, is there any foreign IP that can give us a more clear idea of the total cost of GS? We have in mind around *** canadian $ but it's just an extimate.
The second issue is the distance: as we are not freelance and our employers don't offer us a big support (in Italy surrogacy is forbidden, so we have to be very careful in speaking with anyone about this journey) it could be very difficult for us to come to Canada a lot of time.And I personally think that this is really a pity as the surrogacy is a journey to do together with our surrogate, staying as near as possible: we could have skype call whenever we want but not trips to Canada.I address this question to the surrogates: what are your feelings about this issue? Would it be a problem for you?
