So last time I left you on a bit of a cliffhanger- we were waiting on my second beta results!
Well, the results came in at a GREAT level, *** I did the tests 23 hours apart- so by plugging the numbers into a beta doubling calculator, I was able to determine that my doubling time was *** hours, with a normal range of 31-72 hours. The clinic, parents and I were all very pleased with that result and I did not have to do any further blood work.
They left me with instructions to wait until 6.5 weeks for my first ultrasound and to stay on my meds until then. And fair enough, that’s what a NORMAL person would do.
The only problem is, that I’m not normal.
I was in dollarama today buying a birthday card and balloon and a couple of pregnancy tests snuck into my basket and bought themselves.(I swear- that’s exactly how it happened).
So I got back to work and like any normal employee would I snuck a pregnancy test into the main floor washroom in my boot. And because I’m particularly sound of mind, I realized it was one of the pregnancy tests you have to drop the pee into and I realized I didn’t have a cup- so I thought, no problem I shall pee in my hand.(Seriously, if anyone is reading this blog- you should look into having me committed).
So I did this test, and sure enough it was positive… but… it was lighter.
WHICH SCARED ME ENOUGH TO SEND A FRANTIC MESSAGE TO MY SURROGACY SUPPORT WORKER!!!!! (she of course told me to calm down and stop talking pregnancy tests, like a normal person would).
Pregnancy tests getting darker is a rite of passage for any true POAS addict who knows that the darkness of the line roughly correlates with how much HGC you have in your system.
A lighter test put a red flag up in my mind, did I have a miscarriage? Did I have twins reduce to one? Was the pregnancy in trouble?!
Thank god for Dr.Google and hundreds of equally crazy woman who have been in this exact same position.
THIS IS A THING.After 6 weeks your levels can get so high it “tricks” the pregnancy test and makes it lighter. In fact, if you start typing lighter test line 6 weeks- google knows it’s a thing and starts finishing your sentence- that’s how you know you’re really not alone.
I feel like there are better explanations out there, but I found an informative post about it- check it out:
***The post author even did a test with diluting her sample to see if she would get a better result and posted the picture- with a sample diluted 50% with water the test line was DARKER.
Thankfully I had one more pregnancy test in my boot so I ran back to the washroom, and diluted my handful of pee with water.Did another test and waited it out.
Here are the results of my little experiment:
Here is test #1 not diluted.
And the second test where I diluted the sample with 50% water.
These were done only 30 minutes apart!!!
So my suggestion is that after betas STOP TAKING TESTS.Don’t be like me.
Still, I’ll feel relieved after my ultrasound which I have booked in 2 days! The question remains- how many stuck?! 1 or 2? Any guesses?!
Here are the facts:
2- 10/10 quality Embies were transferred.
*** my first beta number 10 days after 5 day transfer. *** my second beta number two days later.18- the number of weeks it took me to realize I was carrying twins when it was my own (first routine ultrasound)
Guess before SUNDAY Nov 23 when we will find out.
