Surrogacy has long been a complex, mysterious, and, to some, immoral way of having children. But that seems to be changing. While it remains illegal in most of Western Europe and is still banned in four U.S. states, the process is becoming increasingly mainstream and accepted. Celebrities—including Neil Patrick Harris and Kim Kardashian West—frank in their desire to expand their families, have publicly turned to surrogacy and helped lessen the stigma in the process.
