Who knew….?! Our journeys began as two souls whose paths were destined to cross.And cross they did in *** knew that a chance meeting in Oxford, UK in *** and thirteen years on, we would be dreaming of an extension to our own journey through our “Birdie” and “Bee”. We are Gav and Shay and we couldn’t be more chalk and cheese when we first met.But here we are now… Shay describing Gav: Coming from the Northeast of UK, Gav’s vocabulary of vegetables stretched to peas, carrots and potatoes only.“What’s a khuuuurrjjet, he asks me?! Isn’t pepper what you sprinkle on pre-baked microwaveable jacket potatoes?!” I reply back, “you mean courgettes and bell peppers? They are just some of veggies I have grown up eating”.Now he does too! Who knew….? Gav is the kindest and most caring soulmate I could have ever asked for. He loves cats and he’s even converted me.He’s great at DIY which is handy as I am sooooo not.I make up for it with my cooking skills, so we make a strong team together. He loves his cars but is selective in his choice (phew!).His pinkie sticks out as he drinks his tipple, his ears twitch when he’s concentrating, which I find very cute.He loves to travel, try new food, appreciates cultures, not keen on long hauls as he gets bored, loves cheese – most cheese, does not like to wait (at all), is sweet and kind to animals and has a great sense of humour – I should know (his cackles makes me cackle!). Gav describing Shay: Originally from Tanzania and with South Asian roots, one can easily trace Shay’s fiery character and his taste buds for spicy food.He’s also a brilliant cook, feeder and a foodie, loves eating and experimenting with new types of food and cuisines.Lucky for me! Being a wanderlust, his another favourite is travels.In fact I experienced my first long haul travel to Asia with Shay.Thailand holds a special place - it’s my first long haul travels and a place of our honeymoon.He speaks numerous languages and is currently learning Mandarin! Shay is extremely loving and has gently integrated me to his cultural and happy family of aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces.He’s naturally good with kids and also known as the Baby Whisperer amongst my group of friends. We are both financially stable in our jobs and share a lot of hobbies and interests such as travelling (we both carry the Wanderlust gene DRD4-7R) and have explored a lot of South East Asian countries.Shay is green fingered and loves to bake breads and ferment brews.I do the driving and we love to spend time outdoors.We are also a big fans of Great British Bake Off!! We are also into reading, cinema, walking, running and in between leading busy lives, we also enjoy laid-back and guilt-free Sundays over mugs of coffees and oversized hoodies and payjamas trawling through Netflix.We hope to do more of all of this and take up new activities and adventures with our little ones. Overall Shay is very likeable, friendly and makes me laugh inside out.He’d make a wonderful father to our Birdie and Bee.Who knew...? Oh that much I do know! About our Birdie and Bee: Where we live in Oxford, we hear birds and bees all the time.We do even more so now.It feels like only yesterday, at a pub in Oxfordshire, having a tiff over what path our relationship is taking and here we are now writing about our future aspirations to be parents.Now this is definitely a Who-Knew moment! Until not so long ago, we felt like little children in bigger bodies.Now we are ready to take our baby steps in our journey to parenthood.Birdie and Bee, as we are referring them to, will be a part of a small close knit family.They will have lots of cousins, uncles, aunts, loving grandparents and above all two very loving parents.We hope their upbringing to be better than ours in a world that is more acceptable and loving.We may not be specifically a mother or a father figure to them but we shall aim to be both in our own individual and unique ways.Cultures, languages, importance of education, self-awareness, respect, acceptance of oneself and others, resilience, transparency, kindness, love for nature and appreciation are just some of the things we hope to help them grow up with.We also wish for them to appreciate the importance of the nine months that made it a possibility being the Birdie and Bee. We are unmatched GS IPs and in an ideal world we would love to have twins, one from each one of us, and use a reputed clinic abroad.But ultimately, we also accept that it will be what is meant to be and let the nature take its course. Some day in the future, as proud parents of Birdie and Bee, we hope to read this statement backwards and say to ourselves “Who knew..!”.In the meantime, we hope to share the beautiful moments of our journey and more importantly invite you to be part of it.We would love to chat with unmatched G-Surros, as well as matched Surros and IPs for support and friendship.
