Our Journey to family and expansion began in *** when I met a single dad with two amazing little girls.Seven years later, I am now momma, and that privilege isn't lost on me. We wanted a large family, something we didn't have growing up. I knew I had PCOS, I am in a wheelchair, so I didn't know if my body could handle a pregnancy. We tried to adopt three times, the last of which the mother had the pregnancy terminated at 17 weeks. After the loss of the baby that was supposed to be our son: we couldn't handle the adoption route. Surprisingly, my disability wasn't going to hinder a pregnancy, and we were cleared to do IVF.Unfortunately, our first transfer didn't work. The doctor stated that because my disability was caused by a lack of oxygen to the brain, that indeed must have damaged my eggs and uterus. We were so desperate when we took his word for it, which led us down the path of surrogacy and egg donation overseas, didn't work. We still had our two biological embryos here in the United States, and we had already spent so much money. We didn't care if we went broke. We were going to give it one more shot.We went to one of the best doctors in the country, and with a strict protocol, I became pregnant. Our pregnancy was going great until it wasn't.I delivered our miracle son at 29w, and because I was born at 24w, we were told I would always be at risk for preterm labor. Our son is a happy, healthy, neurotypical 2y old now but had quite the rough start. He flatlined at 5m and had to spend a month in a specialty hospital, acid reflux of all things. Our son was apparent at 9m; we decided to do another egg retrieval that gave us our eight tested and normal embryos.Unfortunately, as things went for us, immediately after the return, I began to experience UTI symptoms.I have dealt with chronic UTIs for the last 2y, and am now on long-term medications; that aren't pregnancy safe.Carrying is entirely off the table. We began our surrogacy journey with an agency in *** days before transfer, and the GC was medically disqualified. The agency rematched us quickly, got through contracts, was about to start meds when the GC had some custody issues surrounding her children, and we didn't feel comfortable moving forward with her as she was very stressed out.All of this has led us to where we are now. My husband is a retired combat veteran. We own a small kennel. He trains protection dogs as a hobby. We have 17 dogs; half are working, half are medically needy rescues. It's a lot of fun.I am a social worker by trade but a stay-at-home mom now.I homeschool and am blessed beyond measure to have that flexibility and to be present with our kids.We love to ride our ATVs, horses, love to camp, and travel. We are Christian, not the Krispy Kreme, bible-thumping type, but firm in our faith. We do not believe in termination unless the carrier is at risk.We ultimately want someone we can have a relationship with, someone that is stable, to be in our lives forever.Surrogacy is an incredible gift, and the child that results from this will know their story. I know our story is quite interesting, and it's a lot.Thank you for taking the time to read, even if you chose not to connect with us.I appreciate your willingness to help others like us.
