I have already lived a fulfilling life and raised two amazing, intelligent, generous, compassionate, beautiful, and accomplished daughters to adulthood. The woman I had expected to age alongside of, the love of my life, recently left me.I am trying to find out ways that I can still be of service for the second half of my life and what my purpose might be.
Academic, altruistic, compassionate
I have several very close friends who have been unable to have children on their own, biologically (I'm sorry if I'm not using the correct terms--this is new to me). Some have used sperm or egg donors, while others have adopted. My ex-wife and I were very fertile.I am in excellent health and do not look my age.I am on no medication.I exercise (lift weights, rock climb, do yoga) religiously these days, for almost a year straight at this point.I used to run half-marathons before a knee injury and plan on running a marathon in *** also plan on taking swimming lessons this year--it's LONG overdue.I have a PhD in Comparative Literature, a PhD in Spanish Language and Literature, an MA in Comparative Literature, an MA in Near Eastern Languages and Cultures (all from Indiana University) and a BA in English (writing) and a BA in Spanish from Penn State University.I have taught at Indiana University as both an AI and a senior lecturer from *** until this past year.My favorite class to teach has been a service learning course in the Dominican Republic every May in which a colleague and I take students there to live and work with the Seven Elements organization in order to avoid toxic charity.I decided a few decades ago not to chase tenure so that I could raise my daughters and support my (now ex-) wife in her career.I have a sister who is a tenured professor at Kutztown University. She had a full-ride scholarship to study physics but ended up becoming a professor or rhetoric. She is very vocally talented. Both of my daughters are extremely musical. My oldest can play classical/jazz/flamenco/pop/etc.guitar and ukelele and bass and composes and sings her own songs. She could have gone to the university as a graphic artist, but is a sophomore at IU majoring in math and programming. My youngest is an accomplished pianist. She was in the Jacobs School of Music Young Pianist program for many years and also plays bass and sings. She is very artistic and wants to study in order to get into the film industry. Both of my girls were tapped for the ALPS program and studied in it since they were young and have always been A and A+ students. Both girls have black belts in taekwondo and six stripes in Brazilian jiujitsu. My youngest studies Muy Thai at a local dojo with the local SWAT team, and both have taken martial arts classes with Julie Kedse. They are loving and compassionate and kind and charming. They both speak Spanish fairly fluently. I am entering the second half of my life on unexpected terms and I am considering teaching in the UAE for a couple of years and then maybe entering the Peace Corps or working for Seven Elements. The only cancer in my family was a few generations ago and was due to smoking. My mother has diabetes, but that was brought on by poor health choices throughout her life.I just turned 50 and I do not wear glasses. Ask me anything!
